Arc eye!
bugger me it ain't nice.i've known people who've had it and complained but having got away without getting it for so long i guess i got
complacent.not again, waking up on your own in agony, unable to open eyes is scary.then try and use a phone and ring for help when you cant see
isn't easy, sitting in hospital on your own blind isn't nice and fainting twice as someone peels your eyelids off your eyeballs isn't
the best either.they're alot better today but it still feels like my eyelies are 380 wet and dry!
Heed this warning and take care gents!
not cool mate!
hope you get better soon! not managed to do it to myself. fancy a auto welding helmet though. its bound to happen one day...

sounds like when i had laser eye surgery
Good advice!
Good lesson!
Hope you recover quickly!
good discription! i remember the pain only too well! get well soon
Sad to hear of this. I have a learner you did exactly the same.
I was lucky when i did my welding course it happened to me but i realised it soon and stopped withing seconds.
A self dimming mask is a must.
I got a bad dose for using a Plasma cutter with safety specs . That hurt.... and I could see. Went an bought Cutting googles.
Was using the safety spcs as the welding mask was to dark
Yeah, it's not pleasant is it? When I was in A&E the nurse tried getting me to read a standard eye test chart. When I said that I couldn't read it she asked me if I normally wore glasses!
Like sand in yer eyeballs. Seen some bush macs weld up my pick ups suspention with three batterys and a pair of sunglasses. I kid you not!!!!!!!
But hey thats botswana for you.
I used to weld with flip flops!
But always had a helmuit
this reminds THIS THREAD it's important to wear eye protection!!!

i dont even know if the nurse was fit lol.she sounded it!
i had it when i was 12ish.
just like i had sandpaper in the back of my eyes completely unstopable pain. truely horrid.
most annoying as i was fine while watching the guy weld all day, its the 6 hours later in the middle of the night when you start regretting it!!
My solution is the cheapest, dont do any welding.
Martin
you can have the best visor in the world and still get it...
my first case was from welding inside of a 1.5m wide steel tube....the arc flashes where reflecting in the back of the visor...
wet teabags work well.....

I work in a hospital and talk to fit sounding nurses most days on the phone.
The problem is I'm yet to meet a fit looking one and I've been here two years!
Beware the sirens call![]()
when I was in, sadly I was in no condition to take advantage

been there, and done that. Wont be doing it again....
wearing clear safety glasses will stop arc eye, you will still be suffering from white spot, but no pain

I've had my eyes lasered and it was pretty much painless. I had mild arc eye and that was a lot worse.
Hope you feel better soon Chris

I've had arc eye once, and that was one too many times as far as I'm concerned! Had to get my brothers girlfriend to drive me to the eye hospital at about 5AM as I couldn't stand the pain any longer. They put some anaesthetic in my eyes to relieve the pain but had sore eyes for many days after.
was doing the old cant get my mask under the wheel arch so shut the eyes quick welding style.only myself to blame, but as a said i've got away with it for over 10 years but never again!
Hope it heals quick and the pain subsides rapidly
Been there also got the 3rd degree t shirt and shorts marks as well
Regards
Rob
When I was 19 I bought a welder from b&q thinking it cant be that hard. Burnt the floor out of an old mini but best of all it was a really hot day
so overall sleeves rolled up to my armpits neck open to the waist and no mask.. doh. Didn't even know you could get burnt.
That night when I couldn't open my eyes I could only feel the sheets of skin peeling off my body and how wet it was.
I managed to get a lift to the hospital the next morning where I received a welding lecture
Hope you feel better soon. In the mean time have fun playing with the flashy patterns inside your head

You need a monkey mask, aka The Gimp.
