90-9-1 rule
speedyxjs - 14/6/10 at 07:44 PM

Just read this over on Jag lovers and found it quite interesting.

quote:

There’s a basic principle in online communities called the “90-9-1” rule. Here’s how it works: * Ninety percent of members are readers – they are participating by reading what other people write * Nine percent contribute from time to time * One percent contribute a lot and account for most of the activity – these are the Community Champions and the more vocal members of the community.

Not sure it would apply here though. I think more than 1% are regular contribiters.

I'd agree, we're a mouthy bunch! But then acording to the member list there are 22927 members!!!

I reckon there are somewhere between 150 and 200 highly active members here....

I think it's probably a bit lower than that..

loggyboy - 14/6/10 at 08:14 PM

62% of our 8130 members have under 10 posts.

sadly figures after that are harder to calculate with the limited search/sorting parameters

My details:

date of reg: 7/7/09 (1.26 messages per day)

Total Posts: 431 (0.04% of total posts.)

Does that make me active or sad!?!

10/17/04 (2.24 messages per day) ... and I'm not *that* active...

55ant - 14/6/10 at 08:35 PM

whenever im up at silly o'clock i always want to ad llllllloads of coments onto a really old mad house thread just so i can get a really big post count, that is sad.

iank - 14/6/10 at 08:54 PM

I'd guess about 20-30 very active people currently, probably 100 regulars and 22000 people most of whom never got beyond 10 posts. The very active people do change over time many when they've finished their cars and either drive them or have sold them and moved on to a different "marque".

That would be about 1% then..

Ninehigh - 14/6/10 at 09:13 PM

Sounds about right, only included in those "readers" are the people who signed up and never posted

Xtreme Kermit - 14/6/10 at 09:45 PM

I'm rarely described as highly active...

Wadders - 14/6/10 at 10:21 PM

relevant to this post, i just noticed we have a close call for the most posts. Peteff is stalking joelp for the top slot

If that's true there are 150-200 people who know a hell of a lot

A1 - 15/6/10 at 02:12 AM

this threads going to be the list of active folk, isnt it?

Angel Acevedo - 15/6/10 at 04:45 AM

It is very difficult for new members or new builders like me to add substance to threads.
So a lot of "readers" stay "readers".
Also there was a time that the mere thought of a "calvinizing" kept a few Keyboards shut.

PS: add one post to my count please!!!
