kitchen sink and carcass
aka Keith - 21/6/10 at 09:54 AM

in a fit of madness in rebuilding out utility room, I bought a corner unit, with the plan to fit a small sink on top.

I built up the carcass the other night and brought in the sink from its packaging.

Cue, the sink wil not fit in between the top supports going across the carcass. Because the carcass top members are not at the front and back, more like the front and 3 quarters back.

Can I take a little bit out of the cross members so that I can squeeze the sink in? Or do I need to but a bigger carcass?

cheers
Craig

They're always in the way.

I've hacked several carcasses around to fit sinks, particulalrly ones with a 2nd half bowl. If it seems a bit flimst then use some wood to brace it elsewhere. Once it's fixed to the wall and the worktop is screwed on it'll be fine.

Yup. A cut and shut will do nicely. If in doubt at some re-inforcing bits of wood and as said when the top's plonked on and it's all glued and screwed it should be fine.
