One rule for us, one rule for them...
David Jenkins - 24/5/04 at 11:34 AM

The SVA requirements are in my mind at the moment, so while strolling up to the station this morning I happened to look at the front of a few of the cars.

It's remarkable how many of the cars would fail the projections rule! Some of the notable ones were Renault and Peugeot, and the worst was a Smart - next time you see one, have a look at the air inlets. The central vanes are about 1 - 1.5 mm thick, so there's no way that they meet the min radius requirements (and they would easily be within range of the test sphere).

Anyone else noticed anything similar?

David

they probably get away with this by arguing soft deflectable materials and the crash testing. just a guess...

though i see your point when relating this to sva.

Ned.

Could you elucidate, please?

They fit wide wheels that protrude from the arches I'm assuming. This is 'illegal' as it is. So they have the right to remove the car from the road.

theconrodkid - 24/5/04 at 09:23 PM

and crush said car complete wih ocupants into a teeny weeny flat pancake

Only if he cleans the mess up afterwards!

But seriously folks... Saturday afternoons in Ipswich, the roads are full of plonkers with baseball caps backwards, screeching round the town streets in tarted-up Novas and Saxos.

... just wait until my car's on the road

David

stephen_gusterson - 25/5/04 at 08:52 AM

but have you got the cap?

and the blue anodised tyre valve covers

and the blue washer jets

and the gold fuses for the 1gw stereo?

and a 19 year old blond girlie?

you have to do these things proper like david!

You forgot to mention the motorsport sticker and the strip across the windscreen so you only have a 1cm viewing strip to drive with.

Dressing up yourself and improvising doesnt count James

Hehe, you jest but when I was in halfords the other day buying oil there was a 17yr old at one of the tills buying a bass tube that took 2 guys to lift (seriously!).
He was chatting to the staff about just passing his test and how the sub was going into the red RS Turbo (!!) parking outside. It literally did have the top 50% of the windscreen covered by a sticker saying simply "Motorsport". I had to laugh.
Apparently it's on daddy's insurance. No shit! I suspect daddy is from Essex, no offence intended to anyone from Essex

Steve,

Actually I was thinking of blasting them off the road with a car that actually goes fast, corners well, and generally resembles a real sports car!

...and a stereo is a waste of time, no matter how powerful it is, when you have no windscreen...

...and I can't get baseball hat to fit under my crash-helmet, no matter which way round I try it...

...but I know what you mean... Ipswich is just over the border from Essex, and we get 'imports'.

Newark has a liberal sprinkling of these 'cruisers' Lincoln has an epedemic.
One is a young lady has a heavily modified Saxo (yes she is a hairdresser)
Does she do the work herself....?
Nope....
She openly offers sexual favours to the other spotty youths in return for doing the work for her

when I was fiddling about with Mk1 Escorts, Spits, and MGB's girls didn't drive...

Just to revive this thread...

As I strolled down from the station last night I saw an O4 registered Smart... have a look at the back wheel arches next time you see one... tell me if you think you'd pass SVA with that amount of tyre showing!

(About 2" of tread showing at the front of the wheel)

David
