low cost welding gas: lemonade?!?
dinosaurjuice - 23/6/10 at 06:34 PM

always wanted to know if this would work or not

not sure how much gas there is in 2l of lemonade but at 21p a bottle must be fairly cheap way of getting CO2!

back out to garage to give it a try.... pictures to follow!

my welds are bad enough without having to shake a bottle of pop with one had!

SeaBass - 23/6/10 at 06:46 PM

PMSL. Has to be a picture of the year on here.

dinosaurjuice - 23/6/10 at 06:50 PM

dissapointing

Are soda stream canisters more or less exspensive than regular C02 bottles

omega0684 - 23/6/10 at 07:29 PM

surely your wallet can stretch to a £10 cannister from Halfrauds!

blakep82 - 23/6/10 at 07:30 PM

what about if you breathe through the co2 hose?

You're not that efficient, the air you breathe out is only about 4.5% CO2.

Do you ever watch myth busters? Mentos in a bottle of coke, or a load of Antacid tablets in water should do the trick

cadebytiger - 23/6/10 at 08:06 PM

I can get dry ice from the lab - that should do the trick

if you can get home quick....

scudderfish - 23/6/10 at 08:17 PM

Put the bottle on the rocker cover of your engine. Remove one spark plug and start it up. The vibration and heat should do a good job of getting the CO2 out of the lemonade.

OFten tempted to hook up a tube to some liquid nitrogen and see what happens. Would certainly be inert

thats an option, but this way i get 94 litres of flat lemonade to drink afterwards.

Canada EH! - 23/6/10 at 08:24 PM

And the lemonade tastes flat after! idle hands are the devils workshop.

scudderfish - 23/6/10 at 08:25 PM

If you're worried about flat lemonade, you could always buy some CO2 and recarbonate it.

T66 - 23/6/10 at 08:33 PM

You've got to try this method, altho it might be better with sparkling water.

Nice speaking to you at newark DJ

Why all the effort for poor quality or dubious welds.

You are going to drive this car on the public roads. You are possibly putting your life and others at risk by not doing your welding correctly.

How much are you really going to save?
Is it really worth the saving considering the potential safety aspect?

Whilst it might be fun to try it as an experiment. I Know I would never risk it on a motor vehicle of any kind.

If a job is worth doing... Then do it properly.

will

Sorry DJ but the lemonade idea is rubbish.

What you need is a rising bell collector over a vat of home brew.

Your welds will be crap but after a few pints of the "by-product" you won't care.

Cheers
