My oldest cat went missing on friday night until 11pm sat. Longest he has ever been out for, but he was back.
On sunday night he went out and has not come back, was in the garden on tues night, but didn`t come in, was possibly seen on a neighbours roof 3am wed
night.
Leading us to the conclusion someone is definately feeding him, and probally sheltering him. As he has no collar (he has lost 4) he looks like he is a
stray but is microchipped.
Leading to 2 questions:
How far do cats normally stray too? I`m guessing he must be close.
Any tips on coaxing a cat back?, he is well looked after so should have no reason to leave.
Thanks
Darren
my cat did one for 2 weeks. i thought it had gone for good but came back looking a little worse for wear.
they can have more than one house they get fed at so can stay there a few days if not weeks i hear.
cats aint like dogs they dont wonder off to die like dogs do so im sure all will be fine.
try some cat nip outside your door that helps if they come back late on a night when your asleep.
cheers

Thanks for the reply, sounds positive.
If I can get my hands on him, I`ll fit a tracker, that way I can plead with the owner not to feed him.
Cat nip does not seem to work on him.

My cat regularly goes walkabout this time of year for days at a time - if your car (like mine) is a bit of a hunter/killer/eater type then this time
of year is good hunting with the light/warm evenings.
I tend not worry unless it's been more than a week or so or if he doesn't show when the weather gets worse (amazing how quick he'll
turn up at the first drop of rain!).
Friend of mine's G-friend got a call from her Dad to say that her cat that went missing 5 years previously came home looking kind off tatty.
My friend paid for the cat to be flown down from Johannesburg to Cape Town, spent a small fortune on vets bills to get the cat healthy - including
dental work.
A few months later G-friend was sitting on the bed with the cat when she said "You know - I'm sure this cat isn't my old
one!!!!!"
My friend is convinced it was vengeance by her dad as he was older than her dad who wasn't very happy with the relationship.
So - if it comes back after a few years - make sure it's yours.
They can be abit 'shallow' sometimes and if somebody is feeding them and giving them a fuss they like to go visiting
Try some Food outside the house door and maybe something with your scent on
Give him a big fuss when he comes home and a treat
Ours likes Fresh chicken

He is a fairly good hunter. So he could be self sufficient.
Fresh chicken and fresh beef are his treats.
When cooking a steak I gave him a lot of beef. 1 hour later I found a dead mouse on the step.
Thanks

One of my cats has kinda moved in next door. Itl disappear for days and com ein starving.
Cats can go for miles and still come back a week or so later.
Good news, he has just come in!
Thanks for the help.

And no doubt strolled in as if nothing was different as well!
Actually he was in the front under the hedge. Just sitting there, we coaxed him in with turkey.
Seemed a bit uneasy with eyes running.
My guess is that he sufferes from hayfever, and cannot smell correctly, so cannot find home using smell.
Seemed okay, not very hungry, so I guess the mice poulation has taken a hit arround here.
