Freedom of speech
thunderace - 27/6/10 at 10:10 AM

Freedom of speech is there a such thing as Freedom of speech.

Richard Quinn - 27/6/10 at 10:14 AM

You missed the "up to a point" option

scudderfish - 27/6/10 at 10:15 AM

No, and rightly so, unless you are prepared to let me call you a paedophile with no recourse. "Freedom of speech" is too simplistic a phrase for a complex problem.

gottabedone - 27/6/10 at 10:27 AM

Thats a heavy subject for a Sunday morning

You may have freedom of speech if you are a political activist that is happy to insult the nation that you live in.

As a member of the public, you are guaranteed to upset someone whether it's directed at them or not. Oh and what ^^^ said!

Steve

I don't think this thread is allowed. I'm going to get Chris to delete it

You are not allowed to defame or slander people but generally you are allowed to say what you like so long as you don't offend certain prescribed groups of people. People are allowed to sue you after the fact if they can prove that what you said is untrue and you knew it.

jeffw - 27/6/10 at 11:45 AM

As long as you belong to a ethnic, religious or sexual (preferably all three) minority you can say what you like about the majority in modern Britain....Sadly the reverse is not true.

Freedom of speach does exist, peoples tollerance to your views does not!

what jeffw said

Ninehigh - 27/6/10 at 03:11 PM

I fully believe in freedom of speech, but very few people (there are some here luckily) that appear to understand that it goes hand in hand with "consequences of opening your big mouth"

Slag off whoever you want, just don't be surprised when they chin you (take that on whatever scale you want)
