You can try blagging it by telling your telcom that you're going abroad for a few months and want to use a SIM abroad. Some might still fall for that

What network? Vodafone give out unlock codes free. Maybe other networks do too - dunno?

If you have the cable you can (for most of them) do the software yourself.
