Afternoon all

As this forum seems to solve all known problems I thought I'd see if anyone here could help.

Last night the house alarm went off about 5 minutesd after going to bed. The keypad shoed zone 3 having been triggered which I beleive is the PIR in the kitchen. Has a quick look and couldn't see any problems.

The alarm has been in for nearly ten years and not given us any problems, so what might of caused it to go off twice both times just after setting it?

Any help appreciated as SWIMBO isn't keen on it not being armed with our new arrival in the house, very protective and was going to sleep in the nusery last night as the alarm was left off.

Any insights or things to try much appreciated.

open up the pir and clean out the dust / grime / grease and .... spiders!

Spider or celebration card falling off mantlepiece

check your kitchen cupboards, there maybe some gremlins hiding in there, or worse, a fox!!!!!

Arming myself with big stick to check when I get in from work as I hate spiders they really freak me out.

I await for the humourous comments

Have you ever had a new battery fitted in the control box ? this some times makes the alarm go off when it comes to the end of its life

I've had them go off appearingly at random, came home once to find the lounge one had been set off, only both doors were closed and there was no way it could have been set off... So it could be a random one-off (which you might well have a few of over the years)

I was an intruder engineer for 15 years, as above check the detector for insects inside, check the standby battery in case its fubar.

Otherwise change the detector, try and use a dual technology unit in a kitchen, this combines both pir ( Heat Movement and microwave (physical movement)). These are less likely to give false alarms provided correctly sited.

At 10 years its probably over due for a change unless it was a very good one to start with.

thanks all for the suggestions, it was indeed as predicted by many of you a large cobweb which once removed sorted out the problem.

I notified swimbo that failure to carry out correct routine maintenance of the house had resulted in the fault. Won't be driving the Indy for a while as it's painful to sit down once someone has stuck a fork in the cheek of your arse
