i dont know why people dont like useing pub bottles there very cheep and work very well .as a weilder for 20 years + and never had a problem useing them.most boc guys will sell you the big one for £20 of the back of his lorry.or ask a local pub to get you one.

That's not a good price for round here at least - check out mig-weling.co.uk for an up to date list of gas suppliers...

Alex, for starting out you're better off getting a CO2 bottle. Its far cheaper and you can practice without worrying about the cost.

Phone Nuneaton Welding Supplier (sure they're is an equiv in Cov but i don't know it) and ask for a price on a bottle of CO2. It should be about 30 quid for the full bottle and then about 15 quid per refill - except i've not refilled mine in a couple of years so the price may have changed.

If you're trying to get Argoshield (Co2 / Argon mix) when i did it they didn't 'sell' bottles only rent them. You therefore have a fixed monthly fee, initial rental and then pay for refills. Its not cheap, if you buy the bottle on ebay, you'll end up with a bottle no one else will officially touch.

Although having said all that, it seems a damned good deal for argon / co2 mix.

I prefer 100% CO2 anyway, better penetration which (with my slightly anaemic welder) is only a good thing. Who needs pretty welds as long as they're strong?

my argoshield lite bottle is big enough and costs £7 per month rental! hardly the end of the world, even for a pauper like me

refills are about £34 last time I checked, but my "Y" size bottle lasts a long time

i'm on year 10 of my build .......

84 pounds a year = 840 quid on gas!

Not a bad price for Argon not so good for CO2 a local pub supplier will normally do you a bottle for £15 ish.
Can you refill a pub bottle with argon though ?
Cheers,
Bob
