Depends what you want

http://www.mp3.com/

Do independant artist stuff, so there are no issues with copyrights....

if you're after legal downloads www.mp3.com is good

if not, try soulseek (use the google, the google luke)

www.kazaa.com for p2p file sharing. Then download DietK.com which will clean off all the adware b*llocks, then make sure you open dietk b4 kazaa and you will have no problems. All the MP3, movies, porn you could ever want.

Use "easynews".
Costs 9$ a month but you can get anything and everything.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

1) kazaa is evil - if you must use it use k-lite they were shut down, but still available here

2) kazaa is evil - use bittorrent and suprnova.org for anything (no good at all for sinlge tracks)

3) kazaa is evil - use soulseek for obscure tracks and just odd tracks that you can't get

4) kazaa is evil.. and full of holes and dodgy/fake tracks. i really wouldn't bother

5) bittorrent for stuff and albums, soulseek for single tracks, will make life easy.

6) trust me, i'm a pirate (yarrrr! etc etc)

7) pay for your music you scumbag

pay to steal music? are you quite mad? also, the chances of you getting caught using something you're paying for are far higher

Thanks for the recommendation - been using the cleaned version of Kazaa for a while, but good to know there are better alternatives.

ned - 1/6/04 at 02:46 PM

i used winmx for a while and got in rather a lot of trouble with an email coming from a company representing a load of record labels asking me to stop using it

I haven't touched an illegal mp3 since.

be warned! as it scared the sh$t out of me.. (and got in trouble with the boss)

Ned.

What did the email say ned? How did they get your email address, did you have to sign up for winMX? With kazaa lite you just use a fake email address.

Hi

I dont remember having to give an email address either, others can browse your shared folder though, but i dont keep anything on the computer long

The company representing the record companies was obviously running a winmx client as well and then downloading htings, running ip scans and traces i would imagine. The network/security people got an email stating an IP address that had downloaded such and such copyrighted material. the ip address was traced internally to me and i got a bollocking.

just beware. I'm sure ISP's have logs of which ip addresses are leased to which client by telephone number when you dialup and broadband will be just the same.

Ned.
