As above, i need it for powering a 180a mig, will 3kw be enough? i'm looking at a Kipor are they good or should i steer clear?
Thanks in advance

got a good Honda builders genny that i am looking to move on as i have replaced it with a silent diesel, i think its a 3 kw but would have to check at the weekend, bosting piece of kit, have left it in the truck for months and it still always starts 2nd or 3rd pull at worst, only got a silent as like a lot of Hondas its not very quiet and make for some grumbles in the pits at night.

Think you'll need somethin a fair bit bigger! Tried to run a 90A welder off a 3kw genny once and it just wouldn't work. Trouble is a genny can't really supply a sudden spike of high demand. Engine just spluttered as soon as you arced up.

You'll need at least 5kva and preferably 8kva and your welder will still probably burn it out if it's not certified for use with a generator.

I managed to run my 150 amp mig off a 2.2 kw genny ( not on full power ), but i have to say i noticed the same, once you strike the arc the engine dips and then you have to wait until it stablises to get a decent weld so better for longer runs.
Did not prove to be my best bit of welding for this reason. so i would say you need to get the biggest you can.

Might be worth hiring one first (same model as you would then buy)??
