Guys,
I got my cubic meter of foundations laid last night.
They are approx 12 inches wide by 8-12 inces deep.
How long do you suggest i leave them to dry out for before my blockwork goes up?
Cheers
Col
not done any for a lot of years but we often used to start on the blockwork the day after concreting.
24hrs it'll be ok to block. Full strength will be days or even weeks away. After 24hrs if you soak (submerge if you can) it it will
get even stronger.
Concrete takes several days to reach its full strength and should not be allowed to dry out rapidly once laid. Particularly if the ground is dry and
it is sucking the water from the concrete. Covering with plastic sheeting should also help.
Ideally you should leave it 2 or 3 days to cure before commencing the blockwork.
Concrete reaches 50% strength in 10 days, full strength in 28 days ( of course this depend somwhat on moisture content, temperature, wind etc....) Most
builders seem happy to start the blockwork the next day though.
