So, I list a ring for sale on ebay. It's sold and they told me so by email, happy days! What they didn't tell me was to lube up properly
and assume a bent position before they ripped the fees out of my exposed delicate area!
The ring sold for £250. After Paypal fee, ebay listing fee's and final value fees, I'm the underwhelmed recipient of £214.60!
All I can say is my *ss is still sore but my head is functioning properly and I will never sell on there again!

Ive edited the first post as I got all excited and posted too early!
Yes they are a holes. I sold a few things a couple of weeks ago totaling 140 quid. After paypal fees and ebay fees iv just paid them 23 quid and
that was with the free listing on every start price they did.
They are taking the pee now.
And have you noticed you can only send a gift to avoid the fee IF theres money in your paypal? if it takes it from your bank you get the fee.
I noticed the last time i sold that their frees had shot from a few percent to 10% of the FV, which takes the wee considering they then make money
off you on paypal as well.
Arent monopolys looked into anymore?
Only time i buy off Ebay now is if the seller has put his contact number on,then i ring him up and do a deal either pay cash and collect or send a
cheque and have it posted to me.
Never had anymore bother in 12 months
Wouldnt deal with them or Paypal again, closed my account,Ripoff
Good tip if you advertise put your mobile number on,take advantage of the free listing days
To be fair to ebay, where else can you advertise nationally, and internationally for £36. Did you check how much a jeweller would have given you for
it? most buy in gold, you may find £214 was a good price?
I've been actively trying to avoid using ebay, but where else can I sell and get the coverage it offers.

Does suck, but on the other hand if you went to a 'regular' auction house you'd almost certainly find their commission even higher. Just something you have to factor in when you're deciding how to sell something.
There are other auction sites like ebid but you don't get the same kind of coverage as with ebay. Set a reserve and make sure it covers your costs in future.
That's the way of the world try running a legit business on ebay.
This is how it works
Buy an item for stock for £50 and sell it for £100 sounds good you just doubled your money good on you. But wait -
The item cost you £50 so you've got £50 for your labours.
VAT take £15 so at least you've still got £35 to show for your hard work.
ebay final value and listing fees - that's another £11 please. Down to £24
paypal want their 4% still £20 left.
Nearly there but it needs posting - jiffy bag, stamp (and recorded) and trip to post office - another couple of quid spent.
So now I can put £18 into my pay packet, but back comes Mr Taxman for tax and NI another 30% and a £5 gone.
Work for yourself they said, great idea but how come I'm still working to earn money for someone else for 7 out of the 8 hours a day?
