The old sky box went pop and it did well at 8 years. New box installed its Hd ect and the tv isnt. 28"wide sony flat crt
So thinking on an upgrade.
Anyway always been a sony man
whats your opinion on this
I had a look around currys last night and this set really stood out.
cheers.
I'm hoping to get the 3D version, probably next year as most tv shops will be skint!
I used to be a Sony man, but over last 10 years ive learnt that promiscuity is the best option when it it comes to technology.
IMHO (and i searched for months with both my Father in law and my own), and we both camt to the conclusion that Panasonic Plasmas are the best
allrounders (in respect of the fact that 90% of tv is still SD). The new ones have freeview HD and Freesat HD built in meaning no set top boxes and
you wont always have to subscribe to skys extorionate prices to take advantage of HD.
Im not 100% convinced by LED TVs, i still think the technology needs a few more years of dev before it can match Plasma.

I would go for a Panasonic Viera range but thats because I have two of them. (A few of the people I work with have them as well and they're all
happy). They're a good all rounder. The first one is about 3 years old and never given me any problems and the latest is about 1 year old but
again no problems
Whatever you do shop around for price on the net. When I bought my last one there was £250 difference between 'High street Curry's' and
'Dixon's' on line price and they both belong to the same parent company. Just for ref the price was £1100.00 in the shop and £850.00 on
line, same TV, Same delivery time (a couple of days)
If it was my money I would go for this.

£100 more but 2" bigger and built in freeview and freesat.
May be cheaper if you hunt the web.
Should get the Panasonic 5 year warranty if you buy in store.
panasonic make the best monitors at the minute IMO..... john lewis do a price match with their 5 year warranty

Got a Sony Bravia, had it nearly 2 years now and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. Picture's sharp as anything else I've seen
and sound is pretty much spot on too.
Imo if it's not good enough then you've got great eyes and ears
Which? weren't terribly impressed overall with the 3D sets I noted. Will wait that one out.
Our LG has been fine TBH. Not the best by any means but great value and still looks brand new 3 years on.

Seriously, this same question comes up every 2 weeks - we need a sticky at the top for this.
Do a search man - every single thread on the subject says exactly the same thing - Panasonic Viera .....

Check this out
Don`t touch plasmas. Just a new spin on crt technology. High voltages means components fail quickly. Also produces a lot of heat.
Led tvs are just lcd with led backlight.
Lcds now are almost as good as plasma in terms of picture, but should last longer.
Darren
A good article on the pros and cons of LCD v Plasma here
I have a Panasonic Viera 42" Plasma. Its 7 years old now and performs as it did when it was new.
There's no heat issues as mentioned, stick your hand on the top and its cool.
I suspect the newer ones are much better and if and when I will be upgrading to a 50" Panasonic.
Steve
Just to add, don't bother with a 3D set...... I've done some work on 3D broadcasts and can't see it moving away from fims/pub football
etc for 5-10 years, even some of the new 3D films are better in 2d.
Oh and buy a set based on how far away you sit. 36" is a great size for home use.
