but were is the fun in that
(besides look at the big sloppy slotted holes in the off the shelf one)
Yours look nicer
Odds are your own own fits and aligns better as you made it to measure. The OTS item would almost certainly needed fettling anyway which is always
very irratating when you've spent money to save time/effort
Are disk brakes really worth it on a bike?

Now I always thought the old pedal back brake system was the future
Either that or the soles of your trainers....come to think of it, didn't you have a re-soling issue recently?

drawback is cost, some extra weight plus hassle of bleeding.... and the ickle brake pads are really cute.
Mine are cable (Cape Wrath).
I rode both the block and disk brakes version of the same bike, and there was no comparison - the disks were far far far nicer to use.
Have to second that. Discs, hydraulic ones anyway, are fantastic. Dependable, fantastic braking in all nasty wet, gritty conditions. I won't be
going back to rim brakes in a hurry.
Having said that, I'm having problems with some old Hayes ones at the moment. Time for another thread...
