eddbaz - 15/9/10 at 02:43 PM

Bean commuting the last month on a cbf 125 to work,60mph on mainly duel carridge way and a roads, got 400 miles on the last tank,14 litres to brim the tank again with fuel, just short of 130 mpg, helped a lot by riding behind lorries, saving a fortune on fuel.

Ahh..in that case - a few years ago, my car managed Dover to Reading on a teaspoon of fuel while I dozed off in the passenger seat...bet that's more than 138mpg....

Thats pretty impressive....

I drove from Dublin to Cork once, and when I checked the fuel, there was more than I started with!

loggyboy - 15/9/10 at 03:17 PM

I used to get more than that on my Goped, sadly they wouldnt let me drive it on the road legally - (same rules that keep the Segways off our roads, but allow unregisted, unlicensed, untaxed old people in scooters/carts from mowing people down on roads and pavements)

just a matter of time till you get killed being that very stupid to get a tow from a truck.

once drafted behind a truck during a time-trail on a tandem. Managed to keep with a truck until 60mph but then ran out of gears. But not something I would like to practice...

No i didn't say I was up the lorries arse to get a tow,but if you follow a lorry at normal distance you get less wind on a low powered bike and hence better economy,I think your reading something into my quote that isn't there.I don't tailgate on or in any vehicle, been riding bikes for 25 years, save your anger for important issues where the facts are apparent

you can nearly halve your fuel bill at 8 feet

They should build cars with an infra red sensor linked to the brakes, to make tailing safe.

Thats what makes trains so economical, that each carriage is slipping the one in front. Do you know you can move a tonne 450 miles on a litre of fuel?

You naughty boy! I'd never have done that A mate of mine once got behind a truck in a TimeTrial. He was just starting to find it a bit tough when he spotted the draw bar to the trailer!

I managed 79.9mpg (almost 800 miles between top ups) in a 1.5dCi renault magane by sticking to a light throttle and 56mph, with 2 people in, so does that count double. I got bored of super economy after a couple of tanks worth and went back to normal driving and about 50mpg though.

This technology is coming. There are a number of road train projects being worked-on. However most take the concept further - not requiring your input once locked to the lead vehicle.

Pah! Amateurs!

6600 mpg

My dad knew a few people that have been killed by driving too close to the back of lorries, most of them were lorry drivers in lorries at the time. He knew some guys that used to deliver to his store in convoy and they used to drive literally 4 feet apart. One day the lead guy had to stop suddenly and the other two died. Also remember that the driver can't see you up close.

As the saying goes ' if you can't see their mirrors, they can't see you'
