Water-resistant MDF (a question for the Suffolk bods)
David Jenkins - 9/6/04 at 08:52 AM

Any Suffolk bods know where I can get smallish sheets of water-resistant MDF (the greeny-coloured stuff) in the Ipswich area? I know where I can get whole sheets (e.g. Jewsons) but I only need a half-sheet at the most, and that will have to be cut in half to get in my car! B&Q don't sell it.

And before you ask, I'm not building a Locust!

they are over TimF's end of town

used them in the past for timber but don't know if they do what you need, (excellent service)

what about jewsons ? they are down near the docks at the town end of wherstead road

Tut tut... read my post!

I want part of a sheet, or a whole sheet cut up. Jewsons don't do that - they sell to builders who have big butch trucks & vans!

sorry i must try harder! is the stuff your looking for also known as marine ply if so try one of the boat yards ? eg foxes marina or one of the yards somewhere like pin mill if your only looking for a bit they might be able to help?

No - it's just ordinary MDF (sawdust held together with glue) but the stuff I want has waterproof glue.

It's very distinctive, 'cos it's green instead of brown.

if they won't cut it up delivery from ridgeons is quite reasonable IIRC.....

ipswich plastics will cut and deliver if you want

David Jenkins - 10/6/04 at 08:33 AM

Do Ip. Plastics sell green MDF?

They do sell DIY kitchens, so it's a possibility...

As for getting stuff delivered, if you pay enough for the goods Jewsons will deliver for free! Trouble is, I'm out all day Mon-Fri, and my wife is often out (works part-time). Also, I don't want to clutter up my garage any further with more off-cuts of sheet.

As long as they do the waterproof stuff i would go with Ipswich plastics.

They make jewsons prices look daft and from memory i think they cut all my MDF to size for no extra cash.
