Does it need to be 'attractive', eg. logs, or can you use pallet? Most industrial places will let you have their broken pallets if you will take them away. Just be careful if they have chipboard blocks in the corners - they burn VERY hot and seem to need almost no air to keep going, so closing the damper on your log burner has almost no effect.

Try your local council.
Up until last year we could take as many trailer loads of chainsawed wood as we liked. They now charge a fiver a load which is still pretty good.
Only problem is its not an immediate result as they have to be dried for a year.

i have as much chipboard as you could want, smashed old kitchen units and worktops. They do say it clogs your chimney though. There's about a tonne in the trailer now, but its damp. I pay £20 a load to get rid!
