The mark of a REAL man!
Rorty - 10/6/04 at 08:44 AM

If a man were measured, not by horsepower, but by the number of (working) pistons he owned then what size of a man would you be?

Jasper - 10/6/04 at 09:06 AM

4 in locost
4 in wifes car (in my name!)
5 in Volvo
I in lawnmower

[Edited on 10/6/04 by Jasper]

200mph - 10/6/04 at 09:27 AM

4 in my car and 1 in the bike.
technically 4 more in the locost, but it isnt running yet......although i do own the pistons...that count? i cant vote again, dang, it means i pressed wong button.

Mark

Guinness - 10/6/04 at 10:00 AM

Four in the company car (but it's a diesel, does that count against), three in the wife's car (and thats a Matiz so probably losing more points there), and four in a pinto sitting on the floor of my garage??

ChrisW - 10/6/04 at 10:17 AM

What counts as working? Owning, running or roadworthy?

I went with 'running', 'owning' would have put me in the same catagory

Fiesta XR2 == 4
Fiesta mk1 == 4
Orion == 4
306 Cab == 6
Viento == 6
Lawn mower = 1
Strimmer == 1

Assuming the last two count that makes 26

There's also my other XR2 but the engine is out atm so technically not running.

Chris

ned - 10/6/04 at 10:41 AM

Ned.

DaveFJ - 10/6/04 at 11:03 AM

Only 9

And I had to include my stripped down Pinto and the one in the wife's moped !!

JoelP - 10/6/04 at 11:10 AM

would've been 18 last week but only 10 now...

long ago i once had 7 cars, which would've been 30.

how many car dealers have cheated and added up all their stock?!

timf - 10/6/04 at 11:16 AM

woo hoo

WEAR YOUR RACE OVERALLS TO BED....20-30 pistons

26 in total

8 in locost
8 in wifes jeep
4 in my car
4 in wifes sensible car
1 in lawn mower
1 in kiddes go cart thing

mackie - 10/6/04 at 12:21 PM

Aww, before we killed them I would have had an extra 10 from the Ghia 4x4 and Cortina (both runners if not exactly street legal)...

But:

4 in the Puma.
4 in my half of the V8

PS. ChrisW, your 306 is a 6 cyl?!
PPS. Anyone american is certain to have an advantage here, they put V8s in fooking milkfloats over there.

ned - 10/6/04 at 12:51 PM

Mackie,

Chrisw is having a 406 v6 transplanted into his 306 cabrio...

Ned.

Peteff - 10/6/04 at 01:14 PM

What about rotary engine drivers? .

4 in van, 4 in locost, 2 in bike and 1 in chainsaw, 11 total. Not something I'd ever thought about before actually. Do the two in my compressor count as well? .

Aah, so it'll handle worse than it does already
Saying that I would probably put a Duratec RS in my Puma if I had the dosh

Yes, but it will go very fast in a straight line! Actually, they're apparently not too bad as the v6 (being all alloy) weighs about the same as the four pot and sits slightly further forward.

I have described it on numerous occasions as being 'like driving a lilo'

The Puma conversion sounds interesting. The chap I used to share a house with has one and he's always dreaming about Cossie conversions. I always tried to encourage him so I could have his old engine. The 1.7 Zetec-S with VVT doesn't half take off when it hits 6000rpm.

mackie - 10/6/04 at 01:41 PM

Yeah the 1.7 is a cracking little engine. The nicest thing about it is the bags of midrange pull is has compared to most 16v engines of that size (thanks to variable timing it has a v flat torque curve and only 1000kg to haul).
I asked before if anyone knew of a seven using it and James said he knew someone with a Westy with that engine.
I think a more sane (and probably much cheaper conversion is to put a racing puma engine in it, that's 156bhp I think (same engine, just tuned by tickford). However It'd probably be cheaper to sell mine, buy a Racing Puma and insure it for a year or two!
The 306 should fly with that V6 though, they are about 210bhp, no?

kingr - 10/6/04 at 01:56 PM

4 in locost R1 engine
4 in VW polo 16v
