grumpy old man
mookaloid - 20/10/10 at 11:35 AM

I think I'm becoming one....

I usually have my home pages open all day but minimised on my desk top at work - gmail, LCB ebay etc. my monitor has built in speakers but only on low volume and I rarely use the sound anyway.

Ebay have a banner ad for tesco mobile at the moment and for 3 days now it has been bleeping at me - exactly like my desk phone - at random intervals - just like the bleeps when I ring someone on speed dial.

First I thought it was the person sitting opposite but she never picked the phone up after dialling, but she said it wasn't her, then I thought it must be my mobile but it wasn't that - I was on the verge of calling the people who put the phones in to ask why my desk phone was apparently randomly dialling out without me even touching it and no lights coming on on the handset............ then I saw it ............aaaaarrrrgggghhh!!!!!!!!! it's a bl**dy advert on EBAY

Its annoying isnt it.... almost an invasion of privacy.... Adverts like that actually put me against the company, the opposite of what they intended I suspect

If you use firefox get the advert blocker and configure it to block noises as well?

Your not grumpy.......

"I AM GRUMPY "

Gets better once you hit 40 - I have been known to blow off about shirt buttons being too small.

There should be a sticky thread on here for old grumpy man posts....

Irritating ads - are irritating.

I block most of these by using Firefox browser with the Adblock Plus add-on.

Chrome for me

Firefox is not really any quicker than IE and goes slower and slower over time - just like IE.

Chrome is not without it's foibles but they seem to have mainly got over the images not showing and compared to the other 2 it is lightning fast and has some really really good features like synchronisation across different computers which is far better than any firefox sync that I have found.....

Oh and it looks much better too

Yes, you can sync all of your firefox bookmarks/favourites and passwords over to all of your puters.

You can't have found all of the 'right' firefox add-ons
And of course there is always AdBlock Plus as has been mentioned ....

My Firefox is lightening speed...for example....looking at my FasterFox (add-on)..this page took 1.11 seconds to load after clicking the email notification in my inbox....that is eerrrmmmm fast ......
But hey ho never mind, each to his/her own ......

It'd be the longest thread on here

my latest hate is, people who let their hedges grow onto the pavement. why should i walk in the road for a plant

mookaloid - 20/10/10 at 09:38 PM

I also hate conkers.......

Last week The Council dug the road where I normally park so I parked in the only space I could find - under some trees.

It was quite windy and I came back to find 3 dents in the bonnet caused by falling conkers

Yesterday I was walking along the same bit of road and a conker hit me on the head

I hate conkers
