My Dad managed to tread brake fluid through onto my carpet a couple of years back meaning I now have 2 or 3 small dark spots on my beige carpet. I'm wondering now whether to replace the carpet which would obviously mean emtying the whole living room and would be a ball ache because my house is only small so I've no where to put stuff or does anyone know how to get the stain off? I've tried carpet cleaners and a brush but wondered if an industrial carpet cleaner might work? Anyone?
Unlikely I would say, IME it'll get the rest of the carpet really clean which will show up the spots even more!
Have you tried stain removers e.g. Stain Devil?
In the past for these kind of problems I've found spraying WD40 onto the carpet then immediately washing the carpet can work quite well, presumably the WD40 just acts as thinners which are then taken up in the shampoo.
I've previously tried carpet cleaner fluid and scotch guard but no stain specific treatments I don't think. I'm willing to give owt a
go as it's a bit unsightly as is so if it reacts badly I'll have to buy a new carpet either way.
I'll try the WD40 and have a look in Tesco in a short while.
As a last resort: I think it is possible to "Patch" carpet if you have some offcuts. Not done this but there are details around on how to do
this (DIY manuals)..
We have used the "Rug doctor" spot remover with some success in the past, they also do other remover types for dealing with different stain
types.

Cover the rest of the carpet with brake fluid so that it matches.
Obvious!
Just do your next engine rebuild in the middle of the living room , that will hide the marks

Might be a bit late but it's worth trying some brake cleaner on the stain. Spray a bit on a piece of clean rag and give it a wipe, it works on our carpet but don't tell SWMBO!

Get a professional carpet man in - it might cost £30 at most but better than you messing it up and having to get a new carpet.
Brake fluid is reasonably water soluble by the way..
Put a rug over it.
