iPad.

You can run the Kindle app on it so you can use all the kindle books as well as the Apple iBooks collection.

Costs a good bit more than a Kindle but you can do so much more.

Only thing I would concede is that the Kindle is better in direct sunlight and the battery last longer although at 10-12 hours, the iPad battery lasts plenty long enough in my opinion.

A good friend of mine just bought an iPad after his girlfriend bought a kindle some months ago (she is a big paperback reader). She loved her Kindle until she got to play with the iPad now she wants an iPad instead. A common sentiment but it all comes down to budget.

I hope this helps,
Craig.

Kindle. If you want to read books it's excellent, if you want to play games buy something else. You could by 4 of them for the price of an iPad.

Almost but not quite...

£109 versus £429 for entry level

Anyway, I'm not going to start another iPad v Kindle debate. The kindle is purely a monochrome ebook reader and the iPad is very nearly a compact laptop replacement which can also double as a decent colour ebook reader. If all you want to do is read electronic paperbacks then the Kindle is the way to go. If you also want to use it for anything colour or a wide range of other computer tasks which might otherwise require the purchase of a netbook or low-end laptop then an iPad is the obvious choice.

I think the Kindle E-ink is much nicer for long term reading than the Ipad. But some people seem to love the Ipad screen....
