My USB memory stick has gone funny. A few of the folders have been corrupted with strange names and I can't open them. The chances are the files in those folders will still be intact. How can I "find" them and save them?
I had that problem when I changed the file names. I had the files some where else so I managed to get them back.
Never did get the ones on the stick to work though.

I didn't change the folder names, they just came up with strange characters when I plugged it in. I'm hoping its corrupted because of a miswrite rather than physical damage. I bet there's a too for finding the files, I just don't know what it is.
right-click on the device, click "properties" then "tools"
I use a piece of software called Zero Assumption recovery for things like this.
Not free but recovered lots of files from corrupt h/disks and memory cards over the years...
USB sticks are very prone to circuit board damage --- this the reason we no longer use them but SD cards instead.
However it could just be file system corruption, as the file system is just FAT you don't need fancy tools to repair it.
