Gas oven problem
Ninehigh - 24/12/10 at 06:40 PM

It's lighting, but barely.. It's not getting warm enough to do anything.

Any ideas what it could be?

blocked jets?? You didnt turn it up enough??

Put your head in it and switch the gas on without lighting it. If you pass out then the gas is getting through just fine!!

PS if your house goes bang then i'll probably hear if from my house in Great Sutton!!

There's gas coming through and there's a flame, but the flame's the same height all the way from 1-9 (i.e. sod all)

I guess thinking logically (a first for me!) that it could be a broken thermostat

Isn't there some sort of thermo coupler that opens when it gets warm then allows full gas through.

would say its the flame failure thermo couple which ensures the gas is ignited on a small pilot type flame before the gas valve will open fully.

might not be best thing to hear on christmas eve,

to late

Aye not the best thing to hear, was hoping it would be something I could clean rather than replace (as I don't fit in there!)

Thanks guys

Last time ours was cleaned it showed the same symptoms. There was a thermocouple that sits in the flame and this had been knocked slightly so it wasn't central it the flame any more. Centralising it allowed it to heat properly and then release the full flow once the oven knew it was lit properly.
