car weight

hi every one,am getting near the end of my build and it just ocured to me that i dont know the weight of my car ,does any one know how i would go about woking this out as i think i am right in saying i need this info for the iva forms ?its a locost with a cortina rear axle and yamaha fazer 1000.:

Take it to the local public weighbridge? Stack of £5 bathroom scales?

Don't need a stack of bathroom scales. Just one and stick each wheel on in turn and add them up.

Make sure that other wheels are on pads to the same level so suspension is not compressed.

Most bathroom scales will go up to 180/200 kilos so should be enough for each wheel weight.

i thought most scales only went up to 20st which i think is about 120kgs.....

Salter scale £12.49 from argos ... 200 kilo 31 stone capacity.

Seriously overweight only need apply!

It doesn't need to be acturate, just don't under weight it. Put 650/700kg. They weigh it at iva to work out everything anyway. So filling the forms in is fairly pointless anyway. But if you put 400kg and it weighs in more it can cause issues apparently.

And don't confuse actual weight with gross weight (which is what you put on the IVA form). Gross weight includes addition weight of passengers, luggage, etc. My car's actual weight is 600Kg (measured on a weighbridge) but the declared gross weight was 800Kg.

I'm sure someone here has the calculations handy...

IVA form requires Gross axle weights. Thats the max the car is designed to carry per axle NOT the actual weight of the car.
At test they'll weigh the car, add an amount for luggage and passengers and that amount MUST be less that the stated axle weights or you fail. Braling will be calculated from thier figure not yours.

Normal for a seven will be Ax1 500kg Ax2 500kg Ax3 0 (thats a trailer max) Total 1000kg (totla must be <= the axles added together). You could put anything from 400 upward and probably be OK.
