Drilled bolts
tegwin - 26/1/11 at 10:39 PM

Anyone know where I can get drilled bolts from (if such things exist)

Basically an m6 bolt with a hole drilled down the middle so I can pass an electrical wire through the center of the bolt...

(not through the head, but through the actuall shaft...)

I cant realistically make them... I need about 1000 of the buggers...

Like Banjo Bolts or do you want the hole to go through the head AS WELL AS the shank?

What length/material ?

A google for "M6 hollow bolts" found a few results, mainly alloy for deraillier applications.

ebay linky

Incidentally, at $3 a bolt (that link above), it'd be far cheaper to get someone with a lathe to make up 1000 for you

Yeah, I am thinking that...

Or design a different solution that doesnt need the bolts... bugger...

I've just had 2 M10 bolts drilled on a lathe for the same reason. You have to remember that the drilled hole will not be plated.

if you need a bolt manf, I can put you in touch with someone, they make bolts in the UK, and a hole down the middle should be only a small challenge.

What about getting some tube and running a DIE up it to thread the outside?

A bloke in the workshop next door said he would supply them at a £1.10 a bolt??

I can do them for you if you need them turned bud. We can discuss when you drop that jig back if you like.

Lewvac stock drilled bolts. Link
Have a look in the online catalogue. No idea about price - sorry.

I'm puzzled how anyone could quote this TBH...I don't see a bolt length, or the required hole diameter...both VERY important pieces of info. for quoting 1000 parts.

For example an M6 x 15mm long with a 4mm hole would be way cheaper than an M6 x 75mm long with a 2mm hole....extreme examples but you see my point...

Unless of course I missed that info. in which case this post is pointless.......

Also, as NigeEss says .....what material?...very significant info. too.

I'm not sure I'd like to drill a 4mm hole up a 6mm bolt. It doesn't leave you much margin for error. I take your point though.
