still getting my head round photography and seen this lens

what are the benefits over the standard lens I have fitted at the moment if any , current lens is 18-70 f3.5 f5.6

greater aperature.

allows defocussing of background and shooting faster in lowlight

A fast lens with that aperture is good for portraits as more light can get in without using flash
Also the depth of field will be better, ie you can keep say, a face sharp in focus and have the background completely blurred.

Hoping to get to know how to use it all, as you say its not all about the gear. Just Viewed your site nib1980 pretty immpressive

Thanks there all done with. 18-55 f3.5-5.6 kit lens just to put it in perspective.

Just getting to grips with theory side so I can move to using manual rather than auto probably have too many lenses now lol

Some sigma lenses arent compatible with the Alpha software on the camera.

CAUTION - photography kit will consume money faster than it is possible to earn it!

at least that is my observation.


f2.8 is at the faster end of lenses, and as said above will allow more light in, giving an opportunity to use faster shutter when trying to capture action shots.

been lucky so far picked up 3 additional lenses one 100 - 300 one 80 - 200 and the 28 - 70 F2.8 dearest one being £70.00 so hopefull got all I need now. I know that I soon as I get to grips with photoghraphy I no doubt will be looking at changing the body at some stage
