Fox family
whitestu - 7/5/11 at 08:29 PM

We've got a family of six living under the shed - mum and dad and four cubs. I've set up an old web camera so we can stream video into the house for the kids to watch. Trouble is the cubs keep trying to eat the camera!

Not sure how far under the shed the den goes, but I'm half expecting the floor to collapse at some point.

I'll try to get some more pics and video. I'm using a cheap webcam with Windows media encoder to stream the video and unless I record a load of mostly blank video, which would fill the PCs hard drive in no time, I need to sit at the pc pressing print screen to get the stills.

Get the coffee on then, could be a long night

Do a Google search for a bit of software called 'Thief jailer'. It monitors the image from the webcam, and starts recording when the picture changes by a preset amount. Perfect for this kind of thing!

catspy also does this exactly (used it to spy on an office mate who kept rifling through my desk). Not sure if newer versions are no longer freeware though?

Wow that's really cool I bet your kids love that...

I do understand your sentiment BUT it is completely misguided!

However cuddly a cute they look, foxes are vermin and if not controlled, are exceptionally successful breeders. Four cubs have the potential to produce a lot of foxes (cubs) by this time next year. A small number of foxes in a neighborhood if left to their own devices and with a ready food source, soon becomes a large number!

There is nothing to predate foxes so however distasteful you find shooting (culling) foxes, you cannot argue with the logic that their number need controlling!
