recommendations for gorilla pod for DSLR
mads - 2/1/12 at 10:55 AM

Happy New Year all,
Going on hol soon and want to take my DSLR with me (Canon 550d). Would like to buy a gorilla tripod for it so interested in suggestions from people who have bought one before please. The main one that seems to come up is by Joby. Are there any others? And how stable are they with larger lenses?

Cheers,

mads

I guess that's Joby's name for it - others have different names like 'Super Grip Flexible Tripod Stand'.

I have a SLR-sized Gorillapod which is fine with a standard lens but not so good with a longer lens. You need to put one arm forward to support the lens which detracts from the flexibility of positioning it anywhere.

You can get very small, portable, almost full size tripods for less money which work better for big SLRs.

I have a proper gorilla pod for my 60D and ive used it about 3 times

its never as stable as you would like, like geoff said, put a telephoto on it and you can no longer use it properly.

take a proper tripod imho
