Seem to be having regular night visits from unwanted persons. Was thinking a motion activated night vision DVR could help indentify these people for future sorting.

Found this on ebay and wondered if you thought it would work

Its all about range with IR, I doubt those piddly IR Leds combined with a basic camera will give much clarrity over 2-3m

I have a Mapin DVR CCTV setup, cost about £200 for HDD DVR with 2 cameras and all the cables, my eaves mounted camera looks down over about 6m to my drive and gives quite reasonable quality.

Infact, you can look if you want to be nosy, I set up a guest account:

Username: guest
Password : password
(and type in the code that appears too)

Log on later tonight to check out the quality.

Do you use their additional software (£40) or something else?

if the only problem with the cheaper ones is the inbuilt IR LEDs, get a motion light and put an IR bulb in it

I have a separate PC that records from 3 cameras at home, they have caught 1 burglar and several pikey metal thieves, also they have helped me many times when I forget where I've put something

One of my cameras is the Foscam mentioned above, take a look mine by clicking HERE using 'guest' and 'password' and click on 'live video'

*Doesn't seem to work for me under IE, so ..er good luck *

Try it when it's dark ... it has good range.

Don't worry about my cats, they are chipped and have an RFID entry system ... flash gits.

I've just taken a look at that link, I own that camera too, I use in in the tintop (obviously) and it's a nice little camera. I've not tried the infrared as it just reflects off the windscreen .

Not wanting to pour cold water here, but you wouldn't ID anyone from a high mounted IR camera.

May work better in daylight so the clothing can be recognised, it will be champion if your sitting watching Tje monitor.

Good lighting is more deterrent than a camera, if they are grafting their hoods will be up, hat on etc and the camera gives them no worries. A buzzer to wake you up when the light comes on will work even better.
