Disability Scooters
chrisg - 28/9/04 at 10:13 PM

Some of you may know that i'm still recovering from a serious accident and I'm still not too good on the old pins.

Yesterday Our lass (My good lady wife, for the none yorkshire blessed) decided we were going shopping to the high church of consumerism - Meadowhall shopping centre.

It's Massive and there was no way I could walk all the way round, Hehe - that got me out of that. But no, she says "I've booked you a scooter", well says I "I can't ride one, I havent got a good leg to push with"

It turned out to be an electric grandad wagon.

What a revelation!!!!

They're brilliant! For someone like me who's terminally idle as well as temporaraily disabled they're a boon - I'm never going to walk anywhere again!

The lady tried to show me how to use it, but as you just pull a lever to go forward and another to go back (complete with lorry style beeper).

She says "it's got 10 speeds but you wont need to go above 3 in the centre"

Hmmmmmmmm? really? well I had to try it.

10 is the only speed you need, really. I tried it on a (reasonably)clear stretch and it's a hoot!

Plus there are other advantages, you're just at the right level for, er, how can I put this, observing. Yes observing ladies posterior areas, in fact there's even a mirror on each side so as you can follow a particularly nice one as it passes you. Heaven.

But the best bit came after about a hour of familiarisation. I spotted a Sheffield United supporter.

In his "steaky bacon style"shirt.

I hate many things as you may know, boy racers, traffic wardens, gatsos, but top of the list is SUFC supporters. As a Sheffield Wednesday fan, I wouldn't spit in a United supporters face if his mustache was on fire.

So

I turned the scooter up to 10, moved out to get a bit of a run up and ran in to him at full tilt.

This is the best bit.

He fell over, got up and then.....Appologised to me !!!! You see if you run into anybody, political correctness stops them blaming you - You're in a scooter - you might be mentally impared, they daren't say anything.

Never been a fan of PC attitdes before but, you know I might be coming around.

Cheers

The disability rights campaigner

how about swopping the "slow" electric slandardmotors for a beefy 3 phase job, 0 - 60 in seconds

(might need a long power cable though...)

I have two, one I'm modifying for a small project. The second was bought a month ago for my Father, who unfortunately passed away on Tuesday.
I'll research some performance upgrades...
I like the idea of 'shunt the c**t'...

Is this a new programme for channel 4, I haven't seen it in the TV guide. How long before ITV come up with their own version. 'Splat the tw@t' sounds like it might be on the way.
