My old boiler (central heating not wife!) has finally given up the ghost.....

Been looking at replacing it with a combi type boiler - possibly a condenser type.

the old system had a seperate water tank and tank in the loft etc..

Any advice on types/manufacturers and also realistic costs, including installation costs, would be welcome.

Have seen Ravenheat combi condenser boiler in B&Q for £499. (same boiler from Plumb centre is £1078!!) - are these any good ?

The internal time clock on the Ravenheat is very fragile. Mine pegged out in a couple of months. Luckily, it has terminals for fitting an external one. Apart from that, it gave us no bother at all. That was the 470 odd quid B&Q one.
My Brother paid a grand for a glow-worm and it needed warranty work within 6 months.

Stay away from baxi ! You are warned.
I got the top of the range baxi and it has givin more head aches than a teenager on drugs. As luck would have it its insurance covers it. Baxi have even upgraded the boards to a new spec cause the old lot croaked three times. Ive become a close friend of the heating engineer who does the board change outs.(That gives you an idea of how many breakdowns we had)
My buddy bought a vokera Italian made no probs but the brit made crap has failed two xmas`s in a row!

Raven heat is good and external clocked there great.

You are looking for a combi boiler (no external tanks) They have an expansion tank in the back Big red thing UFO like shape.
Go for a heat pack deal that does the rads as well but in micro bore.

me old man has been a plumber/lecturer all his life , and vokera are certainly one of the best - condensing boilers are going to be the only thing you can fit soon , so you are wise to do that - go into plumb center and ask for advice , then go and ask somebody the same thing .
