Hi all

My vectra tin-top has a habbit of stalling at traffic lights, i've been told to cheak the idle valve, are they repairable?

Burn it!

I work for the main dealers and nothing gets mended, they just throw them out but I've heard they can be tinkered with, sorry I don't know how!

Cheers

Chris

PS just a thought, re the stalling - did yyou check that you know how to drive?

The problem is not normally in the valve itself, but the seal on the plenum chamber. If the valve does get sticky, the idle tends to hunt, it can sometimes be sorted with a damn good clean

if all else fails (ie chris' useful suggestion!) just tighten the throttle cable. or put a brick on the pedal.

Hi all

Thanks for the suggestions, it seems to hold a good steady idle for 10 to 15 seconds but then just stalls, no hunting

As for tightening the throttle cables, the prob is its an automatic, too high a tickover and it strains whilst your holding it on the foot brake

Adrian, try removing the idle valve and giving it a good clean with carb cleaner while moving the valve to make sure nothing is sticking.
