You wait till you sell something on it then, you have to set up a direct debit as well !!
Account details were asked to me as well, no probs since giving them, I have heard of people starting another 'small' limit bank account to guard against any Big probs were they to appear

I think they like to have your bank details, but iirc you don't have to give them to start up an ebay account.

You only need to enter bank account details when selling using PayPal.

Not essential or necessary if you're only buying.

If you recieve unsolicited emails ,that look like genuine Ebay asking for your user name/password etc, DO NOT RESPOND TO THEM.........

You can report spoof emails to ebay.

as dave says, dont be fooled by spoofs. I never respond to any emails from ebay, even those that say that your account is going to be closed (that was a spoof) or ones that say your security has been breached (that too, just last week, was a confirmed spoof).

its not hard to get lashed if you are slack.
