how could that have happened? the car is against a wall, so there could be no forward motion.

Looks like the horse purposefully dived into the car at top speed.....?

Is it a common thing for large animals to go through windsheilds in the rest of the world? Ive seen quite a few photos like that before. Some of the more memorable ones Ive seen are the horse through the focus windsheild, the zebra through the land rover windsheild, and Ive also seen one of what looked to be a miniature elephant in the grill of a truck.

There was also the one of the moose which had almost passed right through a car and had its head reastin on the boot lid. Too gorey though.
