Can't help with hotels, but surely you'll be needing a V8 motor whilst there - Chevy?

Stayed in the Avalon last summer. It was an experience - right in the middle of the art deco area and lots of pimped up cars cruising up and down Ocean Boulevard. Perhaps better for couples drinking cocktails and watching the world go by.

Arrival at Miami airport was a nightmare. Told to join the 'visitors' line although we had ESTAs and electronic passports which we could have used in the almost empty automatic gates. Took nearly an hour to get through immigration. The baggage hall was even worse, everyone queuing to leave via one bloke who was checking all the customs forms - that took another hour. An american in the line ahead of us said it was always that bad, and the worst of any of the major airports he uses.

See what the ihg group have.

Stay bridge suites etc.

Not quite on the beach, but very nice and in our experience, good value, are the vacation village resorts. Stayed one night at the miami/weston one last year (had late flight into miami, on route to golf coast) and also stayed at the orlando one several times over last 5 years.

We stopped in the grand beach hotel in November and were very impressed.

Although be aware of the resort and parking fees that got us a bill of a further 50quid a night
