Help, car market value??
Alez - 3/1/05 at 08:18 AM

Guys,

I need to find out the market value of a friend's car ("normal" car, Ford Escort). Do you know of any accurate web resources? I'm thinking about something like USA's Edmunds, where you fill in the model, mileage, years, condition and extras and you get an estimate instantaneously for free (they have tables with factors and so on). This afternoon I plan to buy some used car magazine which publishes tables with market values (not as accurate / comprehensive) but I thought it would be good to have different sources if possible. I don't want to ask a car dealer since they will give me the price for buying the car (significantly lower) and I'm looking for an accurate estimate for a deal between two friends.

Cheers,

Alex

Depends on the year of the car but http://www.parkers.co.uk/ is quite good

Many thanks Ben, that was QUICK!!! I've just found another one as well:

http://www.glass.co.uk/uk/en/

Thank you!

i find that glass and parkers tend to have rather optomistic values - i certainly wouldnt pay their list prices depends on how much your mate paid in the first place. When i buy cars of friends, they usualyl got them from auctions, so if i paid list price they would've made a nice raise.

Hi Alez

www.autotrader.co.uk have a "What's it Worth" on their home page.

Thank you guys. I'll see what these websites come with when I have all the details for the car. It will be interesting to see how close they come to each other.

OK that's good to know as well..

Thank you!

We got more than the price the parker book said for our Elise in a trade in for an Impreza. 97 R Elise + £4k = Brand new Impreza!

Maybe they are not so optimistic for exotic cars? Or maybe you got a good deal only because it was a exchange?

Cheers,

Alex
