Ok here is a question i've wanted to know for ages!
Who has the fastest car on locostbuilders??
Hicost? His must be pretty quick.
Or a Busa engined car of somesort.
Are we talking fastest to 60 or 100 or 130, or highest top speed?
Or, in my case, the fastest into a tree in 2005
lol
Ok who is the fastest 0-60 and
who has the fastest Max
And also is the craziest to hav actually done it?? (All on private roads offcourse
)
0-60 could well be jim's r1 phoenix, very light and very sorted. has to be a bike engined car for weight i would recon.
top speed/acceleration over 100mph could be hicost with all that bhp and torque..
the search continues...
Ned.
Hicosts car is 415hp
a Busa as std is 210 or abouts?
thats about half power - even with the excess weight of the car engine, the bike would need some serious sorting?

Well i have never timed mine but it is a bored out 1400cc busa that makes about 250bhp and weighs 400kg.Although never timed it goes rather quickly as
a lot of porsches and ferraris found out at oultan park the other week
up too a little above road legal speeds IMHO a BEC would do the biz, after that shere grunt would take over.
Check this old thread out......

Nice!!!
But wat if......U had a busa 450bhp turbo in the isonblade??
How much better does ur car handle than an Indy?? Wud u be talkin a few seconds round a decent track??
Cheers

The only trouble with light cars and high revving engines is getting the power down to the road, My car feels quick, and is light, but last year i had
a go at the 0-60 street legal challenge at york dragway and my best time was 5.5 secs. i had a pair of ACB10's on the back, and by my last run
had let them down to 8psi but was still spinning in third gear, admittedly the track surface is very poor for traction at york and even the big boys
were struggling. The winner a 1300hp vauxhall victor did it in 3.2 secs. To put it in perpective the TVR 350's and tuscans were a shade slower
than mine, which was nice. On my last run there was a chevy V8 dutton Phaeton in the other lane, i beat him from the lights, but after about a hundred
yards he had toasted me, going on to do 0-60 in about 4.5secs and the quarter mile in under 13 secs. Great day out BTW, but also a good eye opener, i
now smile inwardly when anyone starts spouting 0-60 figures. On face value tho, my money would be on Hicosts car for straight line speed.

but what if u had an ex F1 fire nutter breathing motor in a locost, where does it end ?
BTW the GT1 is 6-7 secs a lap quicker at Donnington than the isonblade ever was and i'm 2-3 secs off the lap record for "road going bike
engined cars" with bog standard bike engines.
posting at same time as you Wadders, one big point in yr post,
wheel spin = not going forward

But: Very fat tyres + Very light car = Unpredictable breakaways
as above - you can only go as fast as friction will allow , and sometimes its possible to be quicker after that 60 mph is reached to 100 than it is
to 60 .
Big fat tyres on a light weight machine wouldnt be very helpful since theyll be made for a heavier car >400 kgs - traction will be aided by two
equal loaded tyres , and you must load the tyre according to its rating otherwise you wont work it enough , and basically be wasting it .
A nice tall diameter with a long contact patch is what you need . saying that - id be happy with 0-60 in 4 seconds - a couple of tenths either way
wouldnt really bother me .
Try starting in 2nd. I have seen a guy who hillclimbs a V8 westfield who starts in 2nd.
Adam
Holy poo Hicost!! Thats some machine u hav built!
Wud u ever look into 4wd? Dax do a 4x4 version of the rush, with cossie engine and gear.
How many MPG's do u get?
My indybird with slightly tuned engine (about 180bhp) must be up there as it weighs 370kg (a bit less in race trim). Also I can floor it in 1st
without lighting the wheels up even tho im running a 3.9 diff.
Expected time in the low 3's but id like to time it somehow!
carnut
yo carnut, wat do u max out at?
I'm running an R1, with hopefully a few mods but using a 3.14 diff
I'm hoping for around 4 - 4.5 secs to 60, altho this is prob a lil ambicious (prob spelt wrong)
max out at about 110. Im looking at fitting a taller diff to make it a bit more drivable on long journeys.
My main problem is: no matter how fast the car goes, you always get used to it and want more!
3.62 LSD!!!

Hmm, I see what you mean. You must be running bloody high boost on that, loads of lag, lacking in low down torque but loads a bit higher up
is that the ALS flames that burnt my eyebrows ??
2nd best noise too 12500rpm
thats why i asked you to switch it on

"PC plod one day in his 2.8i granada couldnt catch me between wellingborough & thrapston"
Jollgreengiant
I wouldn't brag about that - I got nicked doing 116mph somewhere on a motorway in the uk
by a gentlemen driving a 2.8i Grandad - he said
"We had trouble catching you"
I was driving a 1600cc hired cavalier
Anyway on topic - who really gives a toss. I'm building for fun - in the build itself and the driving bit after. If it upsets people (performance
wise) who've spent silly money on a silly car, all the better.
I'll get a cheap, reasonably well handling convertible that should, £ for £, represent excellent value for money!
Oh yeah - it should sound quite good too

Yes 30psi, but I also have ALS, so I can spin the turbo to 8/10psi standing still, a bit harsh.
Granadas are often used in the past as performance benchmarks - the average 2.8/2.9 V6 only made 150hp or 160hp in some cases.
When I had a dolomite sprint 20 years ago, that was considered fast at 9 secs.
Now, I have a 150hp diesel that does 9 seconds
A friend of my wife's has a husband that owned an Anglia. This had been fittred with a ford V6. He reconed it would beat most things away from
the lights. The suprise factor would have been pretty high too!

Wat kind of police cars do u hav in england?
In Belfast they are driving mitsubishi Galant VR4's, EVO 7's, Impreza WRX's, Golf R32's and selection of cars best suited to max
power!!
Even seen one of the Bástards drivin a bora with a "Baby one board" sticker!!!
Vauxhall omegas, Volvo V70 T5s (240bhp), and some police force up north has a fleet of Subaru Impreza Turbos. Range Rovers, Merc E-class/ML-class.
Adam
mostly volvo's, merc's and beemers round my way for motorway types, then the focus's and astra's for pandas.
Ned.
Yep, about the same here in Berkshire.
Adam
Has any1 ever outrun the police in their kit car??
Im constantly bein stopped by them cause i look young, when i get the mk running gonna kick all their asses!!
Steve,
Rover 218 td has been doing that for about 8 years
with 115bhp!
Adam
I believe Sussex police has a marked GSXR1000

All any of the police have over here are Ford Crown Victorias, some departments may have Camaros or Corvettes, but it's extremely rare. You could probably outrun them in anything remotely sporty, it doesn't matter though, it's extremely rare that you really have "gotten away". You can beat their motor easily, but you won't beat their motorola.
TT
When we were in Chicago in 1999, we had occassion to visit a police station following an accusation of my then sister-in-law jumping a red light.
I reckon that 90% in the yard were fit only for the crushers. Most of them were very bent

Haven't seen them.
I know that ITV hire a marked Subaru Impreza as I have seen it a couple of these detective programs
