In the last couple days, I have has 2 emails, supposedly from ebay.

They contain my account name as well as, of course, my email adress lodged at ebay.

it states that i have been suspended by ebay, and need to refile incorrect credit card info.

It takes you to an ebay like log on screen, by clicking a link to ebay - but the link at the top of the browser isnt ebay.

this is obviously a phishing program, thats after credit card info.

dont fall for it

I too have had a number of these emails over the last few months. i contacted ebay and they confirmed that it was a phishing scam and they will never ask you to confirm details. If you place the pointer over the link in the email it shows the true address at the bottom of your browser window. Ebay informed me that if i download the ebay toolbar it will tell me which emails are genuine and which are false.

if you get any forwardward them to spoof@ebay.co.uk this will help ebay trace the people involved.


also if you set you mail reader to read all HTML formated mail as text you will very easily see the fake ones. the url's usualy start with an ipaddress rather that athe name of the company in question

I had 2 today, both for bank details I don't have accounts with. One was Halifax online so I clicked on it and in the address bar it pasted the secure address over their fake address. I could see part of it from under the pasted in one. In firefox when I tried to open the same email it gave me a warning that the port was closed for security reasons.

I've had 4 mails a day for a week now asking me to help PayPal make my transactions smoother. Just re-enter my details to log-in and help them.

Oh yeah, right!

In the last year these have become epidemic proportions.

HSBC, Citibank, Lloyds, Halifax all have had scams and when asked by phone assure you that they will never contact you by email.

Then what happens to me, biz account people send me a mail asking me to login and change an account transaction.

I've been getting similar emails from ebay paypal Barcklays and Chase Manhattan same speil from them all.

Just ignore them, that's what I'd do or forward them to interested parties to let them handle the problem as suggested above

I have had a few in the last week about re-entering my paypal details. The slight give away that it may be a scam is that they are being sent to an email address which I have never used with paypal.............
