Seems the head gasket may have gone on my MK2 Golf.
Whilst I've got the head off I thought I might aswell replace the rattly tappets.
I bought a whole tappet set but I'm not sure if I need to replace them as a set or just the dodgy ones?
Also, do they 'pair' up with the camshaft in such a way that replacing the tappets means the camshaft needs to be changed? Or does the wear
not happen like that?
Thanks for any information!
Cheers,
James

i don't see why you can't replace them individually, though if you have the set and are doing it you might as well do them all at once as
you'd need to remove the cam anyway to get at them presumably?
all imho

Might be worth putting a litre of auto trans fluid in the oil for a few miles before you lift the head it has been known to free sticking tappets but don't leave it too long a it has quite a lot of sulphur in it..
