B&Q sell a 130 turbo mig for £149.99, this seems to be a good price. i think they are made by cosmos. Has anybody got one of these and are they
any good?

I got one and it welds well. Only prob is using it gasless it sticks lots. With gas perfect.
Don't waste your money because all welders like that are rubbish and certainly no good for making a chassis.....go to a welding suppliers you will be surprised how cheap you can get a REAL welder for.
Rebadge SIPs--- on the the hobby SIPs feed mech is under engineered, the plasic holder for he presure roller isn't a great design and the feed
motor looks like it came straight out a Scalectrix car. The SIP controls also take a bit of figuring out. You will get irritating faults that
require fiddling with to get it to work properly -- on mine the fan came off its shaft after about 6 hours use -- easy to fix but it shouldn't
have happened.
However they weld OK --- gasless wire works fine with the DP models provided the polarity is swapped.
The Clarke "Red" range are much better if buying new that is what I would go for. Ferm also have good welders in this size range.
I have a Clarke 151T Mig and that has served me well for more years than I can remember.
I only really use MIG for mocking up and rought work now but I have run alot of wire through it in the past and it has held up great. If I was going
to recomend a MIG welder that would be it. TIG is the daddy but not cheap, a bit more of a learning curve and slower .... nothing looks better though
and penetration is a gaurentee.
The only real difference between the red and bue clarke range is that the red has a hinged door and the blue has a slide off panel .......
woooppppiiiieeee.
Buy the blue and put the money you save to a decent helmet.
okay so clarke seem to be the preferred choice.

AFAIK machine mart are the Clarke people...
Ok if you want to weld cheese and that's about it....they also do spanners for undoing and doing up the odd bit of cheese too.

Marchine Mart do the vat free days - good time to buy from them but you need to be 'invited'. So go along buy something and get on the
mailing list.
Personally I've got a clark 151 (the blue one) and think its great. I'm not the best welder on earth but it does the job for me and was the
right price.

like drills for £11 - probably crap but you just have to bear the quality in mind when using one. And stuff like jacks and stands etc, dead cheap.
if you just need a welder for making the chassis look for a second hand one you can get a good one cheap
Thanks for all the advice, the chassis is already built so i just need the welder for suspension brackets and other little bits, that is why i was looking for something cheap.

Machine mart quality is quite vairable between different products.
200amp arc welder from them, give it a few years use and it won't even look at a 4mm stick.
On the other hand I have no complaints about thier tool chests, other than how other manufactures/distrobuters charge so much.
