RS485 to IP module
nick205 - 8/4/05 at 01:48 PM

This might be a longshot, but I'm looking for information on converting an RS485 interface to IP. A customer has mentioned a company called MAXTRAN who do a suitable module, but I can't find any info on the web for them

Anyone got any info or ideas?

Cheers

Nick

Don't know much about RS485.
UNIX systems often use terminal servers to convert multiple RS232 channels to IP using telnet.
What are you trying to do ?

I've successfully used these in the past:

RS232 / 485 to Ethernet module

There are others though.

to make one you will need to a ethernet / microcontroller solution and a max 485 (or eql.)

then its a easy job..

Thanks for the link CairB, looks like the sort of thing we need.

We have a customer who wants to use an RS485 based data terminal we manufacture, but needs to have it working over an ethernet network in their application.

I would use a terminal server (can get an 8 port unit off ebay for £30-40) which will provide RS232 outputs, then use a 232-485 convertor which are readily available.
