Just now I was trying to describe some race cars I'd seen on sky a year or so back - can anyone give my rubbish memory a clue?

They were small saloons loosely in the shape of 1940's american saloons, except that they were tiny. About 3 or 4 foot tall, really just a big kart with a body. I believe that the cars were restricted to 4 or 5 body shapes with just enough room for the driver, who had to scramble in through the window, and they were powered by bike engines.

The racing was very fast and close, and great to watch. This all started 'cos I was bemoaning the lack of exciting motor racing on the TV!

legends used to be a support race for the BTCC a few years ago, they used to be great fun to watch but not many on the track.

if you have motorsTV, theres a program called 'trackside' that features the support races from the Australian V8 Supercars weekend.

in that, they have (amongst other great things like pickup trucks) a series called 'Aussie Racing Cars' which is essentially the Legends chassis + engine, but miniaturised Holdens+Fords from the v8 series. theres still some american style bodys in there too and huge grids. the racing is brilliant fun to watch!

if anyone is upset about a lack of racing, getting sky is worth it for MotorsTV alone. cheap as hell channel, full of annoying finance and insurance adverts, but its got some brilliant racing on it.
German DTM, Aussie V8's + support races and the BTCC +support races have more excitement in a single lap than a full 'race' (or 'procession' of F1.

Welded diff and BF Goodrich road tyres that slip and slide like a bugger.

Racing in the purest sense.

Just looking at the pictures whet's my appetite...

They do look like a heap of fun - when I saw them they were steaming round the track, sliding in most corners, up the kerbs, on the grass, and so on. None of this clinical F1 rubbish!

You'd probably have to put all the lights up on stalks to meet the minimum height regulations!

To be boringly practical, you'd end up being squished by the first half-wit you meet in a 4x4 once you get out on the road - these are very small cars! It's not until you see the driver standing next to one that you realise just how small...

[REWIND] I just had another look at the pictures - you may be able to make them legal, but I had an amusing image of the 6'4" SVA tester who did my car, trying to scramble through the tiny window to do the brake tests (mind you, I probably couldn't get into one either...)
