Grasstracking Ooops!
NS Dev - 31/5/05 at 09:24 AM

Had a good Sunday's racing fun-wise, if not results wise, so I decided to pop out in an open race at the end of the meeting. These are where cars of every class compete together, but handicapped.

In class 9 we end up starting immediately (well, 75 yards) behind the class 1 minis, but they are on the lap ahead so to beat them I have to pass them twice!.

Anyhow, beside the point, I was merrily blasting past them all, and the track was VERY dusty, so I couldn't see a whole lot, and plenty of people were spinning, so it was just total chaos! I was just drifting around some more minis thinking how well the car was handling going round the outside "on the loose" when I glanced left and saw..............the armco!!!!!!!!!!!

Totally caught me out, I glanced off it fairly hard, but kept my foot in and still passed the other cars, and it still drove ok so I finished, but I have now learnt that relaxing and peeing about while racing is not a very good idea!

Oh yes, meant to bore you all some more and add that the impact was sufficient to dislodge the handheld extinguisher from it's bracket under my legs, and it then proceeded into the pedal area in the next bend!!! Luckily only 2 laps to go with it rolling about near the brake pedal!!

few things are scarier than getting debris stuck under the brake pedal

I'd imagine being attacked by a wild grizzly bear would come close.

maybe if he was really pissed

Where would a wild grizzly bear get booze from?

JoelP when he's pissed

sort of got a small grizzly bear under the brake pedal once!!!

Was out for a drive one sunday morning in my old mini (that's got to be 15 years ago!) and found a ferret! I kept ferrets at the time so I stopped and picked the thing up, huge beast of a hob, biggest but most good natured one I ever had. Anyway, I had nothing to put it in apart from the back pocket of my Barbour jacket, secure enough. Yeah right, just as I approached the first traffic light on my way home, felt the ferret under my feet, bugger got out of the pocket, wrapped himself around the pedals, mostly under the brake pedal. Light goes red and I sail through halfway under the dash trying to retrieve the ferret. Very lucky as the only thing coming turned left and I went straight through. Ferret went straight in the boot after that, no way out of there. Anyway, he outlasted the mini and was the nicest creature I ever had the pleasure of knowing. Great line ferret as well, but always kept him in a proper box after that.

Hardly debris but scarey as hell to have under the brake pedal!!!!

Putting foot on brake pedal of Hilman Hunter/Rapier/Vogue (hand brake lever on offside of drivers seat) and finding that the servo has sucked all the fluid out of the master cylinder, giving NO brake pedal as you get a few car lengths from a vehicle stopped at a busy junction with a pedestrian (with pram) waiting to cross in front of said vehicle, from offside (no vehicles just brick wall and kerb) to the nearside (parked vehicles & no clear exit).

Now that was scary.

The joys of single circuit brakes :-(
-- I once had a rotoflex explode on an elan and take one of he rear brake flexies with it -- on the approach to red traffic lights.

I had that exact same experience many years ago; old Mini, ferret along road, ferret under pedals. FREAKY!
