UK is waaay higher than 29 % of our gross earnings...think of all the indirect tax we get hit for......

What an interesting website, I often wondered where you could get fact to compare different countries /cultures........

well that is 100% of the average wage, earn more than that in the uk and you get hammered

What a load of old kangaroo's testii's... they should not use average as it is misleading. A more accurate measure would be to use the mean wage. I suggest the result's would be very different then.

"mean" is the same as "average"

Average can mean: mean, median or mode. Mean is the one everyone thinks of when you say average though. Median is just the middle number a list of ordered data. Mode is the most frequently occuring number in the data (probably what those stats are based on as well.)

No I'm doing Manufacturing Engineering, but we have a few different stats courses... (The one I have just done was called Statistical Techniques, and was aimed at quality control techniques using stats, things like SPC etc)

There are lies , damn lies and statistics.

I would be very difficult as not only are the bases different (ie. wage correlation eg tax bandings), also the capture method (ie. direct versus indirect) and also the supply (what you get for your money - Health, Education, Defence etc....).

OECD stats ... ha ha .. some are a good effort others seem to be calculated by people who eat far too much cheese.

Of course you do need to bear in mind that these are not gaussian but rayliegh distributions.
