I've discovered a new textured type of chassis coating, you can do it at home and it is very easy to apply. What you do is this-
Heat up an area of the chassis, ideally by welding a plate over a tube end. Then, while it is still hot, gently drape a piece of fleece ( the type of thing used for making cardigans etc) over the area to be coated. The ideal source of fleece is the loose material in the sleeve of your left arm (assuming right hand welding).
If you've done it right then the material, suitably darkened, will be transferred to the chassis, but you will only know for sure when you go inside for a cup of coffee and a breeze blows up your arm as you walk up the garden path.

Another thing I've discovered today, that snappy spring noise during the middle of Jeff Healey's solo in his version of "Stuck in the middle with you" is the earth clamp coming off the chassis.

Actually the work has gone very well today, apart from the aforementioned damage to my clothing, and cutting a couple of angles the wrong way. Bad news is they were 50 degree angles, so take a long time to cut. Good news is I've now got a metal cutting bandsaw so it wasn't me having to provide the energy. Wish I'd bought one years ago.

I use clothes I dont mind trashing - and in my build I have been trough 2 coats, 2 pairs of jeans and three T shirts.

They either do the melting thing, or get ripped on something, holed by weld spatter, or generally so covered in crud you throw em.

That sounds like my everyday appearance. Also did you notice how sharp the edges are on the melted fleece, mine scratches my arm every time I wear it. The best way to turn a fleece back into PEP is to waft a gas welding torch over it. They are made of recycled pop bottles you know.
