Just started a new job in my own town. Its a bit of a hike on foot and the traffic/parking is a nightmare.

now I -could- be all environmentally friendly and cycle but... im very lazy, and wheres the fun in that?

I was just wondering what the score with car license holders driving bikes. I could quite fancy a little motocross bike for commuting purposes.
are you allowed to drive a 125 if you have a car license, or is it 50cc only?
anyone know a bit more about this?

IIRC You can have a 50 on a car licence but anything above you need a licence. 125's you can ride on a car licence displaying L plates and u need your cbt.

Things have recently changed. You can view what u can/cannot do on the dvla website..

I think you will find 'grandfather' rights come into this - you need to have held your licence from before a specific date to entitle you to ride a moped (50cc) upto a 125 with L plates.

If you don't qualify then you have to undergo a CBT

This is from memory so you need to check it out properly.

Personally I would recomend a moped if you are only travelling into to town. They are very cheap to run and you rarely get above 30mph in most towns anyway. The road tax is only £15 a year and insurance is tiny. The wife has a modern moped and I use it to go to work whenever she has the car.

Just remember Moped are like fat women - great fun till your mates see you with one!
