How the H3LL did she do that
thats going to cost us

dunno why but london olympics isn't really impressing me much, i was just watching on the news the other day about how all the stadiums in greece
are now just sitting empty costing millions for nothing.
how much is all this going to cost?!
seeing as it's london getting all the glory does that mean it'll just be thier tax money that is used to pay for it?
Have to declare an interest here but:
What a way to waste 10Billion quid!
It'll be just like the dome- a complete waste of money that the government will balls up.
What do you see the chances of anything actually being finished on time? It'll be like Greece 2004 but without the good weather!
James
£20 on council tax for London residents, apparently.
Didn't mention that when making the bid, did they!
DJ
Hope everyone enjoys it. All us Londoners will be paying for it !

£10 per year for the next decade !

If it'd been in Paris I may've been able to take part.
As you can imagine I'm more than a little disappointed!

maybe by 2012 car building will be an olympic sport!
So James, if you make the team you'll be declining then
I'm a little suprised to see such an outstanding display of negative feelings so soon after the announcement, must be the british way of life.
If national pride is so low maybe one of the other cities should have won.
All the best a proud Dan.
Not negative - totally neutral - couldn't give a stuff, really.

i think its very hard to have any form of national pride when the whole thing is so London based...
not very relevant to folk in scotland, northern england, northern ireland or many other areas included in the "nation" that won the olympic
bid......
more than one person at work was glad that "England had stuck it to the French"

I feel like I should be happy but I can't help thinking that it'll be a big waste of money. Even if we get some fantastic new sports
facilities they'll all be in London so they won't be accessible to the vast majority. If they want to promote sport in this country I think
a number of venues around the country would be much more beneficial.

I agree it is sad that it is so London based but I think you need to remember that these damn foriegners have only ever heard of london...
phrases I have heard include:
"Birmingham, that's near London right ?"
"Cardiff, london England" (as an address)
and my personal favourite:
" Scot-land.. that's in Engerland right ?"

I for one am pleased that the olympics are coming to town, It's about time we had something happen here! and in reality 10Billion over the next 7
years isn't a huge amount of money!! (when you consider the countries budget for other crap!) It's just a matter of seeing the true scale -.
And it will (have) to lead to improvements in london transport and the immediate area of the development.
But most of all - we stuffed the Frenchies - again.....

As for the northerners argument... I ask you what is the point of a North south divide if you are not going to police it ?

lol, is that a genuine photo? They didn't hang about did they!
Pete
maybe red ken is going to extend the congestion charge all the way out to the M25 anyone who enters the zone pays regardless of how you travel and
keep raising the rate quaterley,
by 2012 we might have alienated enough people out of london to make the transport system work the way its supposed to
i think the percentage of people who care about the olympics being here is about the same as those who back the royal family about 5% and i'm
being genorous
Funny thing the priorities in news departments, half of Scotland brought to a stand still by what ammouts to a highly organised act of terrorism that
has blocked motorways and trunk and A roads and it barely gets a mention on any news channel.
If italian and spanish anarchists and a few local yobs went on the ramapage through a retail park super market and council estate with 25 miles of the
M25 it wold rate continious news coverage. What did BBC and SKY devote most of the morning news brocasts to the Olympic vote and a football
transfer strory.

Being from up Norf.... all we will hear for the next 6 years. ... is England will win....

James,
You've got 6 or so years to get that arm in shape for darts then! Better get to the pub now to start developing your counter-weight...
Nick
as one of the poor mugs that will have to pay £45(yea right) a year for the next million years i am not impressed.
it will be over budget, late and subject to fraud allegations (remember wembly stadium/the dome/most government plans)
my company has bid for groundwork on the sites(boss rubs his hands together and gets some more noughts for the calculator)
They may be able to build the swimming pools but there will be no chance of filling them with the coming hosepipe bans
More tax & squander
(Princess Tony will give Cherie one tonight)
total waste of money.......all for a few people trying to win chocolate crimbo tree decorations....which the UK won't see many of.
Now if we had oilylimpdick sitting in traffic jam comp we might stand a chance of winning summat
Beach volleyball on Horseguards parade I here.
Now that must be worth a few quid!

What will be the first (of many) TV programs to show a clip of the 2005 Olympic draw followed by the (yawn) 1966 World Cup final. The digital nightmare come true it could be shown on 2000 channels at the same time.

I do Savate kickboxing and as well as being a qualified instructor I'm in the British team and competed at the World Championships in Bulgaria last year.
Although no-one in this country has heard of it, 30,000 people do it in France. The French government's Savate minister (yes, it's big enough there to have it's own minister- I know him quite well) had got it agreed that if Paris won the bid then it would be a demonstration sport at 2012.
If it was popular then it could well have become a proper Olympic sport (it's practised on 5 continents). Ok, so by then I'll probably be too old to fight but I'll probably have my own club by then so could be coaching.
As you can imagine- a bit disappointed.

Each country is allowed to add a couple of new sports. France would have added Savate as one of their 'demo' sports. Somehow I can't see Britain putting it forward as one of ours.
I mean, we've got other good things such as Binge Drinking as our national sports! Much more fun...![]()

Cheers,
James
What a frightful bore. I secretly hoped Russia would win the bid so we wouldn't hear too much about it all.
The French really are a pathetic bunch. They couldn't wipe their own 4rses in the two world wars and can't even win one out of three Olympic
bids.
I wouldn't be surprised if they blew up their end of the chunnel out of spite.
