At least there is a map of the locations and the extent of the scheme:-

yep, more sh1t enforcement of stupid limits by ill informed w4nkers.
Sorry, but speed cameras are a total joke. Safety my arse.
Never mind the accident blackspots coming up, just keep that eye on the speedo
son

So on a long journey from say Aberdeen to Stranraer when we get to this area we need to stop at a nice eatery somewhere between the 2 sets of
cameras.

Any ideas. They've gotta be a great thing for someones choke and puke.
OOOH just looked at the map of locations. Thats a serious amount of cameras on 1 road talk about overkill.

tell me about it......infuriating

was a good bike road.....
and not even bad for accidents..........just a friggin money maker....
Col... you sure about that?

Not that I'm disagreeing mind... 28 miles of boredom... would be enough to make anyone lose concentration and crash!!!
exactly.....
they just opened a new stretch of the A77, where it was a bad...really really dangerous road........
guess what.....the camera's aint anywhere near that section of it............

No more rushing for the ferry to NI

When gatso's came out there was word of these types of cameras becoming available. In all honesty (unfortuneately)they are the only type that are
going to keep speeds down to the legal limits.
Soooo I vote for higher legal limits.
85 on Motorways
75 on duals
60 on A roads, with the provision that if your overtaking anything going slower than 60, you can go as fast as you like as you pass then return to 60
without being prosecuted

Wish you had told me about these sooner i was down that way yesterday and wasnt to sure what they were
think i might have been going a bit fast at times
hope not......went live yesterday i think...
I was down at the electric brea with SHMBO
Fingers crossed im ok
nothing new.
the same system (4 cams) is on a 2 mile stretch of the a43 in northampton and had been live over 3 years. There are also 3 cams on the a428 between
northampton and bedford over a 6 mile stretch

Colibriman's right - the most dangerous parts of the road were between Fenwick and Newton Mearns (just south of Glasgow), and Ayr to
Stranraer.
The bit between Fenwick and Glasgow has just had a brand new motorway put in, but most of the stretch between Ayr and Stranraer isn't covered by
these cameras. They are in fact covering the safest stretch of the road, so where's the justification?
The death and injury toll will reduce thanks to the new motorway section where most of the accidents took place (it used to be a dual carriageway with
nothing but a a double white-line separating the two carriageways), not thanks to the new cameras.

I have used both roads often, the A428 is just the Northamptonshire police they have so called safety all over the place. quite often on the bridges
over the M1 and A45. as for the A77 was a good bit of road as long as you timed it right to miss the lorry's coming off the ferry. I would of
thought some bits of the A75 can't be far behind.
Dave
we have them at the moment on the Orwell bridge by ipswich. justification is becuase it is being worked on - underneath ! now call me picky but i
could cross that bridge at 200mph and at no time would someone underneath the damn thing be in danger!!!

anyway rant over...
I noticed yesterday that in the USA some interstate limits have gone up to 80mph, sorry but what the f**k, how can the septics get higher limits than
us ? it's just not ... British.... in fact it's practically un-patriotic not to up ours to 85 !!

One on the A616 Sheffield/Manchester... that too is on a safe (but fast) part of the road. Ironically the places where they have a 200foot drop inches
from the road are not covered by it
It's 'big brother' for big brother's sake. It makes my blood boil too... but what can one
do? Petition?
yeah , weve got some in between gainsborough and bawtry , and a reduced limit to 50 mph - so what happens when you get stuck behind a lorry doing 45
mph and want to over take on the dual carriageways in between those sections - you go over the average speed and get nicked - its just not fair .
lincolnshire had someting like 90 deaths last year over the county , most of the cameras are nowhere near these so called accidents occur - and most
are caused by impatient people wanting to pass slower 45mph lorrys on a 60 mph A road - time to think of a revolving number plate !!
Just been through it, it was causing really bad bunching even though the road was quiet I am pretty sure most of the cretins don't even know
what the speed limmit is on a dual carriageway. It would have been far more sensible to slap a short 60 or even (gulp) 50mph limit on the stretch
around the dangerous crossroads just before the speed trap starts when heading from the Kilmarnock/Glasgow but it isn't to do with safety is all
to do with money.
In my area over last couple of years in my are the number of looney changes to roads and junction has become ridiculous East Kilbride is the worst
affected with a rash of new mini roundabouts that are almost invisible on approach and stupid pointless and dangerous trafic lights on roundabouts
that have caused a rash of minor accidents.
The most looney speed limits must be the stretch of he A8 from Greenock to glasgow around Glasgow Airport slip road this is a very dangerous section
of road but the mismash of ill thought out speed limits only make it worse.

New road markings at the roundabout at High Blantyre industrial estate.
Silly markings for a fortnight. Quickly rethought to avoid silliness and shunts.
They had it so you had to be in the right hand lane to go straight through when the natural thing to do was to keep left and leave the RH lane for
turning right.
They now have it filtered to one lane only.
Forces people to wait in line. No bad thing IMHO.
From BBC:
"The £775,000 initiative consists of 40 banks of hi-tech cameras at points between Bogend Toll, north of Ayr, to Ardwell, south of Girvan and is
the largest in the UK. "
Just imagine- small amount of explosive round the base of each one, timed to go off in sequence along the motorway about 1/2 to 3rd of a second
apart.
Would be just like hitting the nuke'em button in Lemmings and seeing them all go pop in one long line!
How many lots of £775,000 do you think they'd be willing to pay?

seriously I think the answer has to be two front numberplates. A good one and a broken one.
Keep the good one on for short journeys around home to avoid winding up the local police, then on journeys on unknown roads just take it off and hide
it under the boot carpet. Keep a smashed plate in the boot visibly on show. If (when!) you get stopped, explain about the unfortunate rabbit that
smashed it and show the officer the slightly bloodstained smashed plate in the boot.
"will fix it asap officer, I'm awfully sorry but I haven't had the chance to change it today, you need the logbook to get plates made
these days you know and that's back at home I'm afraid, terribly sorry"
Are front number plates a necessity cos i know I had a broken front number plate for a while and never got pulled over by the police. thought i was
going to one though lol. cos i know motorbikes are not allowed to have them but i wasn't sure about cars kitcars. cos would half the chances of
getting caught
my car recently rolled into the garden wall, busting the number plate. I remembered a recent thread on this forum, apparently a missing front number
plate is only a £30 fine and a vehicle defect notice, but no points. So i pulled off enough of it to make it impossible to work out the car (all 3
letters) and have left it like that ever since! Its a nice feeling, cos the main thing that will catch you out, is the mobile camera vans, and these
all read your front plate.
I got caught by one of these a while ago
not really practical on a nice new car, but mines only an old sierra anyway!

The ones one the Orwell bridge have been removed, both lanes open in each direction for the first time today. what happens a caravan caught fire so we all got stopped while the fire engines turned up. Well the good news is one less on the roads!!!!
when i was in florida last month i noted that the cars there dont have front number plates - at least the florida state ones....

I live in Kilmarnock and agree completely that these new camera's are a waste of time and money since, as someone already said, most of the
accidents used to occur on the bit from Fenwick to Glasgow or Girvan to Stanraer. The bit from Ayr to Girvan is the "easy" bit...
There must be a way of defeating the specs image analysis software if we put a bit of thought into it. How about having another
"numberplate" on the front of the car but with no letters in it? A bit like a forward reflector - I don't think it would be illegal and
you could justify it on the basis of "safety"
Alternatively, how about a numberplate where the reflectivity can be turned off and on using liquid crystal? SPECS at night could be beaten if you
turned off the reflectivity at night so that the infra-red camera couldn't see you. During the day it would be visible as normal.
Another thing which has been mentioned before is for everyone to reject fixed penalties and go to court for every single offence. Even if you simply
plead guilty it would jam the court system up big time and wouldn't cost much more in fines in most cases.
There may be a business case for a company to set itself up to act on behalf of people who have been caught speeding (minor offences only - the ones
where a F.P. is offered) and charge a fee comparable to the expected speeding fine to assist with the court case. Either the speeder gets off with
the offence and the company keeps the fee or they don't and the court gets the fee. The advantage in the first instance is that the speeder
doesn't get any penalty points. The advantage to everyone is that the "system" will break down and hopefully this will provoke a
rethink.
Cheers,
Craig.
Since I was getting one of these for my father and myself, I figured you guys may want the opportunity to purchase one at a decent price...
